Several factors can affect VPN speed. Try switching to a server closer to your physical location, or change the VPN protocol from OpenVPN to WireGuard — WireGuard is significantly faster in most situations. You can also temporarily disable NetShield to see if it affects your speed.
Enable the Stealth protocol in ProtonVPN's settings before connecting in China. Stealth disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, making it very difficult for China's Great Firewall to detect and block. We recommend downloading and configuring the app before traveling to China.
